Protect Your Employees with Vehicle Lift Inspections
An automotive lift is a vital part of any service department or repair facility. In a busy shop it is not unusual for every lift to be used everyday, all day. The average service life of a lift is approximately 25 years. Just like a car, as a lift ages, it will have parts that wear and need to be replaced or adjusted.
Vehicle lift inspections are a critical component of any service department’s safety program. Annual vehicle lift inspections conducted by a qualified automotive lift inspector are required by the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) National Standard covering vehicle lift operation, inspection and maintenance (ANSI/ALI ALOIM: 2008).
Up until 2013, there hasn’t been a license or certification program to help you choose a “qualified” company to trust with vehicle lift inspection. The American Lift Institute, (ALI), a national organization of most major lift manufacturers, has developed a national training and certification program for lift inspectors. Companies and inspectors must meet and maintain strict qualifications, including minimum liability insurance, detailed inspection and performance standards, and standardized record keeping by company and inspector.
